Fake retailer "store closing / clearance" Facebook ads

A recurring impersonation scam in which fraudsters clone well-known US retailers with "store closing / bankruptcy / 90% off liquidation" Facebook ads on typosquatted lookalike domains, take payment, then ship nothing or a cheap overseas knockoff and vanish. The impersonated retailers (Barnes & Noble, Tractor Supply, Candy Warehouse and others) are victims, not perpetrators.

The evidence — every signal, shown

Identity & legitimacy

  • No real business behind the storefront

    The operations impersonate legitimate retailers through renamed Facebook pages (e.g. "TSC Closures") and typosquatted domains such as tractorssupplyy.com versus the real tractorsupply.com, with no verification badge and no genuine company registration.

Payment

  • Takes payment then disappears

    Once shoppers submit card details the scammers simply take the money; the BBB advises paying by credit card (which allows chargebacks) and avoiding debit cards because these sites offer no real recourse.

Dropship & impersonation

  • Nothing ships, or an overseas knockoff does

    When anything arrives at all, BBB reports describe poor-quality items shipped from overseas that do not match what was ordered, while many buyers receive nothing despite an order confirmation.

Ad behavior

  • Fabricated liquidation urgency

    Ads push "store closing", "final liquidation" and "90% off" messaging and exploit real 2025 retail closures (JOANN, Party City, Big Lots) to look credible — a pattern the BBB flagged in an October 2025 warning about fake store-closing ads flooding social media.
