A gamified job-scam pattern flagged by the FTC, FBI, and BBB: victims get unsolicited offers to do simple online "tasks" or "product boosting" for commission, see a fake dashboard with rising "earnings", then are pressured to deposit their own money — usually crypto — to unlock tasks or withdraw. The deposits go straight to the scammers. FTC counted ~20,000 task-scam reports in H1 2024 vs ~5,000 in all of 2023.

Impersonates real employers
The FBI and BBB report operators pose as legitimate staffing or recruiting agencies, social-media firms, retailers, and travel companies, with no verifiable employer actually behind the offer.
Payment
Pay-to-get-paid in crypto
The FTC and FBI document that victims must deposit their own money — usually cryptocurrency — to "unlock" tasks or withdraw earnings, and those deposits go directly to the scammer.
Dropship & impersonation
No real product or service
The "product boosting" and task work produce no genuine goods, sales, or service — the storefront, employer, and commission structure are entirely fabricated (FBI/FTC).
